Naked City

New York: Essential Books, 1945. First Edition. Weegee's first book. He earned his nickname, a variation on "Ouija" board, as he would show up to crime scenes and happenings before the police did. Foreword by William McCleery, Editor, PM Picture News, as well as photo and explanation by Weegee titled "A Book is Born". A fascinating look at society, sailors, criminals and lovers in NYC.

9½ x 7". 246 pp. Tan buckram with dark blue title and author to cover and spine. Photographic endpapers at front, blank at back (2nd edition added photos). Some signs of use-pages have a bit of soil and fox spots, else a very good copy, lacking the DJ.
